I am an ARTIST and DESIGNER.
As an ARTIST, when working on paper or canvas, I am as focused on the abstract qualities of the details,
as on the overall piece. By allowing nature to guide my hand I become a visual force.
As a DESIGNER, I am using my skill to plan, arrange and take control of the formatted space... I can direct attention
and visually lead the the viewer to what I want them to see.
The two together are the creative tools all artists wield, whatever their medium. When creating a video,
the ability to make one image flow into another while carrying the story forward is the essence of DESIGN, while the ARTIST creates the frames and characters that are the body of the work.
WOMAN WITH PEARLS
Oil paint on canvas 24"x 48"

While creating body contours by
placing dots in linear arrangements over a figure,
I found myself coloring and placing the "beads"
according to no logical plan.
There is abstraction created by the randomness of
the strokes and shapes that is basic to the piece, but
not in a a photographic sense. By allowing my psych to
determine a large part of the composition, I feel that it
moves the image closer to surrealism than to a
realistic portrait.
The subject was revealed to me near completion...
wounds incurred throughout a lifetime; the sort that
many women carry; invisible, but painful enough to
keep the victim silent for decades.
